Silicon Valley design trends often emphasize glassmorphism, heavy 3D animations, and ultra-minimalist iconography. While beautiful on an iPhone 15 Pro, these designs often break, lag, or confuse users on low-end Android devices operating in bright sunlight. Here is how we design differently.
Contrast is King
When you are outside in the Zambian sun, low-contrast gray text on a slightly lighter gray background is invisible. At Chiza Labs, we prioritize stark, high-contrast UI elements. Buttons look like buttons. Text is highly legible.
Literacy and Iconography
We cannot assume high technical literacy for all users. Icons must map to real-world objects. A "save" icon shouldn't be a floppy disk (which many young users have never seen); it should be something culturally relevant or universally understood, accompanied by clear text labels.
Graceful Degradation
We love animations, but they shouldn't block functionality. Our apps are built to recognize the device's hardware capabilities. If a user is on a budget device, we automatically strip away heavy transitions and drop shadows, ensuring the core functionality remains blazing fast.
