Smartphones have conquered the continent, but what comes next? As affordable smartwatches and fitness bands flood the market, we are researching how to extend the Chiza Labs ecosystem from the pocket to the wrist.
Continuous Health Monitoring
Apps like Calon currently rely on manual user inputs for symptoms and habits. Wearables offer a passive data stream. By integrating Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) APIs, we are exploring how Calon could automatically log heart rate variability and sleep patterns, alerting users to anomalies before they feel symptoms.
The Battery Life Constraint
In regions with rolling power outages (load shedding), a device that needs daily charging is a liability. Our R&D focuses heavily on minimizing background sync processes. By batching Bluetooth payloads and letting the wearable handle initial calculations, we aim to preserve battery life on both the watch and the phone.
Safety on the Wrist
Beyond health, wearables offer immediate accessibility. We are conceptualizing SOS triggers integrated with our CityWatch platform, allowing users to broadcast their location to emergency contacts with a single hardware button press, bypassing the need to unlock a phone in a dangerous situation.
